Santa Margarita Slugs Way Past St. Bernard

Matt Wilkerson and Chris Rix hit home runs for visiting Santa Margarita, which scored six runs in the sixth inning to break open the game en route to a 10-4 victory over Playa del Rey St. Bernard in nonleague baseball Thursday.

Wilkerson (2-1) also pitched five innings to pick up the victory, striking out six and giving up two earned runs for the visiting Eagles (5-2).

In another nonleague game:

Capistrano Valley Christian 5, San Bernardino Aquinas 3--Marc De La Torre had a pinch-hit, two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to drive in the winning runs for host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-1).

In nonleague golf:

Canyon 383, Savanna 435--Scooter Baum’s combined two-over 72 at Anaheim Hills and Dad Miller earned him the medal for Canyon (2-2).

In Garden Grove League boys’ swimming:

Garden Grove 122, Los Amigos 48--Greg Reeves won the 200 individual medley (2 minutes 17.11 seconds), the 100 butterfly (1:02.05) and swam the third leg on the winning 200 medley relay (2:06.82) for host Garden Grove.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ tennis:

No. 1 Corona del Mar 13, Laguna Beach 5--Anton Brandt won two of his three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, for Laguna Beach (2-5, 0-1).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

No. 9 Dana Hills 9, No. 5 Woodbridge 9 (Dana Hills wins on games, 80-79)--Travis Smith and Jordan Villwock won in a doubles tiebreaker to clinch the match for Dana Hills (5-1), which also got a doubles sweep from Chase Ora and Jason Efstatiou.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

No. 7 El Toro 3, University 0--Kyle Martin had 12 kills and Jimmy Pelzel added 11 for El Toro (2-1), which won, 15-4, 15-6, 15-12.

Cypress 3, Long Beach Wilson 0--Zane Bermunzo had 12 kills and Garrett Massey had 33 assists for visiting Cypress (4-0), which won, 15-6, 15-9, 15-11.
