BASKETBALL

Former interim athletic director Steven Murray will be chairman and former player Greg Bunch will serve on a committee to help seek a successor to Bob Hawking as Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball coach, it was announced Wednesday.

Other members of the search committee include athletics development executive director Jeff Cova, sports information director Mel Franks, athletics compliance director June Kearney , and women’s tennis coach Bill Reynolds.

Other members are alumnus Larry Rovira and university professor Steve Walk. Richard Dahloff will represent the Associated Students.

* Savanna’s boys’ basketball coach James Honell has resigned for personal reasons, Athletic Director Larry Anderson said.

Honell compiled a 40-41 record in his three seasons at Savanna, guiding the Rebels to three consecutive playoff berths.

“James definitely has left the program a heck of lot stronger than it was when he got here,” Anderson said. “And we should be able to attract some good candidates because of that.”

SOCCER

Capistrano Valley, the Southern Section’s Division I champion, will be represented by seven players in the Asics Orange County Senior High School All-Star girls’ soccer game Monday at Chapman.

Cougars Jessica Allen, Laurel Allen, Sarah Banks, Lindsay Greco, Janelle Hillseth, Jessica Lyons and Haleigh Roach will join other top seniors in the game, which begins 7 p.m.

Capistrano Valley Coach Jack Peterson will guide the Black team and Marina Coach Tino Ray Younger the White team.

Admission is $3, with children under 12 admitted free.

BASEBALL

Cal State Fullerton will host USC at 7 p.m. on May 10 at Titan Field, in a make-up game from the Kia Baseball Bash, which was rained out on March 5.

Tickets from all rained out Kia tournament games (CS Fullerton vs. Georgia Tech, Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech, USC vs. CS Fullerton) will be honored at this game.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Nine members of Irvine’s Aquazot Swim Club are in Anchorage to compete in the U.S. Swimming Junior Spring Nationals West.

Jennifer Arrow, Lauria Weisenthol, Sara Showalter, Nicole Mackey, Yuuka Kikuchi, Mary Bressler, Gabi Dorn, Adam Hewko, Michael Riordan and Kevin Olson were scheduled to swim in the four-day meet, which runs through Saturday.

* UC Irvine diving coach Conni Pomeroy has announced that she will retire effective June 30.

Pomeroy has been at Irvine since 1984. Previously, she was the diving coach for the Industry Hills Aquatics Center and the director of the training site for the 1984 Olympics. She will continue to operate her private swimming school she in Mission Viejo, according to Anteater swimming Coach Charlie Schober.
