Botts’ Blast Lifts Glendale in 9th

Jason Botts led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to give Glendale College an 8-7 victory over Ventura in a Western State Conference interdivisional baseball game Saturday.

Botts had three hits and scored three runs, and Mike Roux had two triples, a single and scored two runs for the Vaqueros (11-11-1, 6-5).

David Chaparro had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs for the Pirates (12-9, 5-7).

Pepperdine 14-7, San Diego 4-2--Dane Sardinha had two hits and knocked in five runs in the first game and Jeremy Coronado had three hits and drove in two runs in the 10-inning second game of a West Coast Conference sweep at San Diego (17-15-1, 3-5).

Pepperdine (18-10, 10-1) had a five-run 10th in the second game, including a run-scoring single by Coronado that gave the Waves a 3-2 lead.

Valley 5, Oxnard 4--Kevin O’Hara’s run-scoring single with two out in the seventh inning gave the Monarchs a WSC interdivisional victory at Valley.

Reliever David Levy retired six of seven batters for his third save and John Mort had a two-run double to highlight a three-run fifth for the Monarchs (7-12, 2-9).

Canyons 9, Hancock 5--Ethan Slimak and Billy McGrath hit two-run doubles for the Cougars (11-10, 7-5) in a WSC interdivisional victory at Hancock.

SOFTBALL

Canyons 13, Santa Monica 0--Stephanie Blaire (11-0) allowed one hit over five innings and Stacy Fields had a home run, double and three RBIs in a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons.

Val Reyes had three hits, including a double, and Danielle Fiddler added two doubles for the Cougars (22-4).

Moorpark 6, Ventura 2--Dominique Colell had a two-run triple for the Raiders (15-12, 8-3) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Ventura.

Pacific 4, CS Northridge 3--Adrienne Ratjajczak’s two-out home run in the 17th inning gave the Tigers (13-13, 1-0) and pitcher Cindy Ball a Big West Conference victory in what was to be the first game of a doubleheader.

Ball (8-4), a graduate of Camarillo High, allowed 12 hits in going the distance, striking out seven and walking three.

Jessica Creith had three hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Matadors (13-16-1, 3-1).

The second game was rescheduled for today as part of a doubleheader.
