Amen’s 6 Under Lifts Orange Lutheran

Matt Amen shot a six-under-par 29 to help Orange Lutheran to a 182-189 victory over Whittier Christian in Olympic League boys’ golf Tuesday at Willowick.

Amen, a sophomore, had four birdies and an eagle on the par 35 Santa Ana Course.

In the Sea View League:

No. 6 Newport Harbor 190, No. 5 Woodbridge 205--Senior Kevin Olson had an eagle on the 542-yard par-5 sixth hole and a birdie on No. 2 and was co-medalist with a one-under-par 35 at Big Canyon. Freshman Billy Moon had three birdies and shot 35 for Woodbridge.

In South Coast League golf:

Dana Hills 190, San Clemente 193--Freshman Andrew Jason made three birdies and shot a one-under 35 at Pacific Golf Club for the visiting Dolphins (5-1, 3-0).

In the Sunset League:

No. 3 Huntington Beach 183, Esperanza 205--Junior Andy Anderson had four birdies, after a triple bogey on the first hole, to finish with a one-under round of 35 for host Huntington Beach (6-0, 2-0).

Anderson birdied the par-four second, par-four sixth, par-four eighth and par-three ninth.

The team score of 183 was a school record for nine holes, beating the old record of 188 set in 1988.

In nonleague golf:

No. 1 Santa Margarita 378, No. 7 Irvine 383--Steve Conway shot a two-day total of par-72 for the Eagles (8-0), who also had three players tie for second.

Taylor Wood, Brett Heath and Travis Okomoto of Santa Margarita finished with 74 on Cota de Caza and Oak Creek. Freshman Chris Lavery and teammate Jon Friedman both shot 75 to lead Irvine (6-3).

In Century League baseball:

No. 1 Villa Park 6, Canyon 2--Brandon Averill improved to 4-0, pitching five innings and striking out six, to lead the Spartans (10-1, 4-0).

Averill had two hits, including a home run.

Junior Quintana had three hits and Bryan Arguello had two hits and two RBIs for Villa Park.

In nonleague softball:

No. 2 Foothill 1, West Hills Chaminade 0--Courtney Fossatti (6-0) pitched the shutout and Caitlain Lowe had two hits and two stolen bases for the Knights (9-1).

Edison 5, Dana Hills 2--Terri Swift had a solo home run and pitched three innings in relief to gain the save for Edison (8-5).

No. 5 Kennedy 2, Huntington Beach 1--Lorraine Geiger singled in the game-winning run in the sixth for the Fighting Irish (8-1). Michelle Turner gave up three hits and struck out 13. Tiffany Brown (1-1) took the loss for Huntington Beach (3-3).

Rosary 2-3, Troy 0-1--Natalie Golda’s two-run homer in the eighth inning proved to be the winner for Rosary (10-4) in the second game of a doubleheader.

Golda also singled in the winning run in the 12th inning of the first game.

Freshman Courtney La Monica pitched 5 2/3 for the victory in the second game. In South Coast League boys’ swimming:

No. 6 Capistrano Valley 92, Mission Viejo 77--Andrew Burbach won the 200 individual medley (2:07.59) and the 100 backstroke (68.79) and teammate Brent Nolan took the 200 freestyle (1:57.17) for Capistrano Valley (2-2, 1-1).

In South Coast League girls’ swimming:

No. 9 San Clemente 106, El Toro 64--Freshman Lauren O’Neil won the 200 individual medley (2:17.44), 500 freestyle (5:27.76), and anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay team for host San Clemente (4-1, 2-0).
