Wolverines Win This Home Run Derby

Chris Fielder drove in five runs with two home runs Monday to help visiting Aliso Niguel to a 10-7 Sea View League baseball victory over Laguna Hills.

The teams combined for seven home runs, with Fielder’s three-run homer and Kyle Mowery’s bases-empty shot fueling a four-run third inning that gave Aliso Niguel (9-12, 6-6) a 5-0 lead.

After Laguna Hills (10-13, 6-8) answered with three runs in the third, Fielder hit a two-run home run in the fourth.

Adam Tanos chipped in for the Wolverines with three hits, one RBI, two stolen bases and a run.

The Hawks made it close on the strength of home runs by Chris Turner, Daniel Miltenberger, Joe Viglione and Chris Johnson.

In nonleague baseball:

Brawley 6, Estancia 5--Brent Davis’ two-run double in the bottom of the first inning gave Estancia a 3-1 lead, but Brawley scored three runs in the third to take the lead for good. Armando Ortiz went the distance for the Eagles (8-12), striking out four and walking none.

In Century League boys’ tennis:

El Modena 15, Santa Ana Valley 3--Brent Omeste and Matt Weiss won in doubles for El Modena (12-5, 5-4), and Jason Topor won in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 11 1/2, Cypress 9 1/2--Alex Candia and Matt DeLand each won a singles set, 6-3 and 6-2, and teamed to win, 6-3, 6-3, in doubles for host El Dorado (12-8, 9-1).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 10, Whittier Christian 8--John Howard and Nick Kirby swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1, for Orange Lutheran. Chris Brown swept his singles matches, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, for visiting Whittier Christian (1-15, 0-9).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 13, Fountain Valley 5--Twins Jason and Wesley Hall swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3, and Jeff Malawy swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for host Edison (11-5, 7-2).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

Garden Grove 3, Bolsa Grande 2--Garden Grove rallied to win, 14-16, 10-15, 15-5, 15-12, 15-11, and move into second place in league.

Eduardo Rodriguez had 25 kills for the Argonauts (10-7, 9-2).

David Nguyen had 39 kills for Bolsa Grande (13-3, 8-3).

Pacifica 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Matt McCall had 16 kills as the Mariners clinched a tie for the league title with a 15-8, 15-6, 15-0 win. Nathan Harris had 11 kills for Pacifica, which plays second-place Garden Grove on Wednesday.
