Authorities Tuesday announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of three men involved in the shooting death of a clerk at a San Gabriel convenience store.

Mohammed Islam, 31, of Montebello was shot shortly before 1 a.m. on April 8 at the 7-Eleven store in the 8100 block of Arroyo Drive.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are searching for three men in their late teens or early 20s who entered the business and confronted Islam at gunpoint.

Sheriff investigators say Islam was cooperative, but the young men shot him anyway. Islam died about three hours later at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. He had worked at the store for four years.

“He did everything they told him to do. But they shot him in the back as they were about to go out the door,” said Sheriff’s Department Det. Mark Winters. “After he was shot, the suspects ran from the store to a car waiting at the street.”

The car is described as a midlevel compact. Winters said the suspects got away with a series of blank money orders, which are not cashable.

Investigators distributed security camera photos of the suspects Tuesday. 7-Eleven’s parent company offered the reward.

According to authorities, Islam’s body was taken back to his native Bangladesh for burial. He was married shortly before his death, officials said.
