Triple A--Right-hander Josh Towers (Hueneme High, Oxnard College) struck out six and allowed five hits in six scoreless innings for Rochester (Orioles) in a 2-0 victory over Charlotte (White Sox) in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, right-hander Jon Garland (Kennedy) defeated Rochester, 5-2, striking out five and giving up six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Garland is 2-1, Towers is 2-2. . . . First baseman Mike Mitchell (Rio Mesa) had three hits, including a double, for Tucson (Diamondbacks). . . . Left-hander Barry Zito (Pierce) is 2-2 with Sacramento (Athletics), after allowing five hits and one run, and striking out six in six innings in a 9-2 victory over Colorado Springs. . . . Veteran Bob Scanlan (Harvard-Westlake) earned his sixth save for Indianapolis (Reds).

Double A--Reliever Chris Garza (Notre Dame) struck out three and gave up one hit in two scoreless innings for New Britain (Twins). . . . Right fielder Eric Cole (Antelope Valley High, Antelope Valley College) hit his 11th double and knocked in two runs for Round Rock (Astros).

Class A--Center fielder Junior Brignac (Cleveland) had three hits for Myrtle Beach (Braves). Garret Lee (Glendale College) posted his first save for Myrtle Beach, striking out two in 2 2/3 hitless innings. . . . Center fielder Matt Riordan (Westlake) had three hits, including his seventh double, for Delmarva (Orioles).

JETHAWKS

Juan Silvestre hit for the cycle, but the Lancaster JetHawks lost to the Bakersfield Blaze, 10-8, in a California League game on Wednesday at The Hangar.

Lancaster (17-10) set a club record in the third when Terrmel Sledge , Silvestre and Peanut Williams hit consecutive home runs.

Bakersfield is 14-12.
