Lancaster’s Kirkendall Goes Distance for Three Victories

Rosanna Kirkendall of Lancaster High swept the three girls’ distance events and Jerrick Holmes of Palmdale won the 200 and 400 meters and the long jump at the Golden League track and field finals Friday at Quartz Hill High.

Kirkendall, a senior bound for Cal State Northridge, won the 800 in 2:23.6, took the 1600 in 5:22.16 and the 3200 in 11:53.8.

Highland’s Gina Londono, Lancaster’s Kicarah Figueroa and Antelope Valley’s Ray Allston each qualified in four events for the Southern Section Division I preliminaries at Long Beach City College on Friday.

The top three finishers in each event advanced to the prelims.

Londono won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles in 15.3 seconds, and finished second in the 300 low hurdles (46.4) and the long jump (16-9.25). She ran the first leg of the Bulldogs’ 1600-meter relay team, which won in 49.1 seconds.

Teammate Shellie Scott won the girls’ 100 meters in 12.6 and was runner-up in the 200 in 26.4.

Figueroa won the girls’ long jump with a leap of 16-10 and claimed the 300 hurdles in 45.6. She placed second in the triple jump (36-10) and 100 hurdles (15.4 seconds).

Littlerock’s Latoya Townsley qualified in three events. She was third in the long jump (16-0), third in the 100 (12.9 seconds) and ran the second leg of the Lobos’ 400 relay team, which finished second in 52.9, behind the Highland foursome of Londono, Midori Reed, Lizzelle Jackson and Scott.

Allston was second in the 200 in 22.7 and ran the first leg of the Antelopes’ 400 relay team, which finished third in 42.8. Highland won in 42.1, followed by Palmdale in 42.6. Allston ran the anchor leg of the Antelopes’ second-place 1600-relay team.

Palmdale’s Jerrick Holmes won the boys’ 200 in 22.6, the 400 (48.9) and the high jump (6-0). Marcus Raines, a junior from Littlerock, won the 110-meter high hurdles (14.2), placed second in the long jump (21-6) and was third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Littlerock senior Rodney Woods won the boys’ long jump (22-1) and triple jump (47-9). He missed qualifying in the 100, finishing fourth in 11.2 seconds.

Travis Morse of Palmdale edged Antelope Valley’s Jon Molock to win the 100 in 10.9. Allston was third (11.0).

Palmdale’s Desiree Withers won the girls’ high jump (5-2) and triple jump (38-5).

Highland’s Greg Root was second in the discus (133-5) and shotput (46-5). Tim Selby of Quartz Hill won the shotput (48-4) and Palmdale’s Kaleb Robinson won the discus (138-9).
