Gary Hicks broke his collarbone and three ribs after clipping Charlie Cooley’s back tire during a Speedway Handicap semifinal Saturday. Hicks, of Quail Valley, was taken by ambulance to Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach and released that night. He probably will miss at least six weeks of the speedway motorcycle season.
