Hernia Sidelines Jets’ Abraham
The impressive rookie season of New York Jet linebacker John Abraham appears over because of a hernia.
Abraham, the second of four first-round draft choices by the Jets this year, will have surgery today and be sidelined at least seven weeks.

San Diego Charger free safety Rodney Harrison was fined $40,000--one of the biggest penalties in NFL history--for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Oakland Raider tight end Jeremy Brigham on Sunday night. He plans to appeal. . . . Quarterback Doug Flutie will make his third consecutive start in place of Rob Johnson on Sunday when the Buffalo Bills play the New England Patriots. . . . Seattle running back Ricky Watters missed his second practice in a row because of an injury to the big toe on his right foot and is questionable for the game against San Diego. Shaun Alexander will start if Watters is unable to play.
