Murray’s 182 Yards Help Fullerton Knock Down Sonora

Share

Ryan Murray rushed for 182 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Fullerton to a 33-18 victory over visiting Sonora in a Freeway League game Thursday.

The loss likely eliminated the Raiders (5-5 overall, 1-4) from any at-large playoff consideration.

Kevin Marino gave the second-place Indians excellent field possession early in the game when he returned a fumble 27 yards to the Sonora four and a personal foul moved the ball to the two. Murray scored on the first Fullerton offensive play and the Indians had a 7-0 lead with 10 minutes 14 seconds left in the first quarter.

Fullerton had a 56-yard touchdown pass from Michael Echaves to Daniel Fells called back because of a holding penalty, but on the next play, Murray scored on a 66-yard run.

Fullerton (8-2, 4-1) built a 21-0 lead with 4:41 left in the first quarter when Garren Brantley scored on a 17-yard run.

Sonora had one scoring opportunity stopped on a fumble recovered by Josh Pendleton on the Fullerton 18.

The Raiders scored on a 28-yard touchdown run by David Mayfield with 8:40 left in the half.

Sonora settled for a 25-yard field goal with eight seconds left in the first half after failing to reach the end zone despite having first and goal at the three.
