Paraclete 48, Mojave 14--Michael Washington had 213 yards and one touchdown in 11 carries as the Spirits posted their ninth consecutive victory at Antelope Valley College.

Paraclete (10-1), which has won three consecutive Southern Section titles at either the Division XI or XII level, trailed, 7-0, after L.D. Cox completed a 64-yard touchdown pass to Scott Barker on the game’s first play.

The Spirits took control by scoring 27 consecutive points.

Quarterback Craig Herrera had touchdown runs of two and four yards during that stretch, with Erick Jackson scoring on a seven-yard run and Curtis Brown scoring on a 49-yard run.

Cox, who completed 14 of 32 passes for 169 yards, had 125 yards in 12 carries for Mojave (5-5-1). His six-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter cut the Mustangs’ deficit to 27-14.

Paraclete countered with 21 fourth-quarter points as Jackson scored on a one-yard run, Washington scored on an 81-yard run and Joe Martin returned an interception 26 yards for another score.

Martin also intercepted a pass at the end of the first half for Paraclete, which has won 13 consecutive playoff games.
