For the second consecutive year, Hancock College denied Moorpark a division title.

Capitalizing on three turnovers, the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-1) scored 20 points in a 1:52 span early in the second quarter of a 35-10 victory at Righetti High in Santa Maria.

Ben Pierce threw three touchdown passes and Hancock clinched a tie for the Western State Conference Northern Division championship with Canyons.

Anthony Cromer’s interception of Nick Lewis’ pass set up Hancock at the Raider 19, and three plays later Pierce threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Travis Jackson.

On the Raiders’ next possession, Christian Hodges returned another interception 42 yards to make the score 14-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, Kirk Brown returned a fumble 26 yards to cap the outburst.

Pierce, who completed seven of 15 passes for 134 yards, threw touchdown passes of seven yards to Chad Clark and 49 yards to Casey Miranda in the fourth quarter.

Lewis, who completed 13 of 35 passes for 134 yards, scored for Moorpark (6-4, 5-2) on a one-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

Receiver Aaron Fredette finished with nine receptions for 92 yards for the Raiders.

Moorpark, ranked No. 12 in Southern California, had minus-three yards rushing.

The loss might have ended Moorpark’s streak of bowl appearances that dates to 1988.
