Davis’ Status Remains Uncertain

How many more games will Denver running back Terrell Davis sit out? At this point, it’s anybody’s guess.

Davis remains hobbled by pain in his lower left leg and could be sidelined for the Broncos’ game at Seattle on Sunday.

Tests on Davis’ leg have been negative, but an MRI test taken Monday was sent to a specialist in San Francisco to see if any light can be shed on the injury.

With little information, it has become impossible to tell when Davis will be healthy enough to return.

“I really don’t know,” Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday. “I thought he was going to play this last week, then he set it back. I don’t think anybody knows. We just have to wait and see.”

Medical tests on Cincinnati offensive tackle Rod Jones came back normal, a day after he had chest pains.

Jones had pain and dizziness during the Bengals’ 16-13 loss to the New England Patriots. He stayed overnight at Massachusetts General Hospital for tests that found no problem.

Trainer Paul Sparling said two more diagnostic tests performed Monday came back normal as well.

However, a sprained knee could send quarterback Scott Mitchell to the sideline for at least one game.

The Bengals hope Mitchell will heal enough to play next weekend. He finally got the offense moving by throwing for 236 yards against the Patriots, a major improvement for the league’s worst passing attack.
