Northridge Women Drop the Ball in 75-61 Setback

Kristi Rose had 14 points and 14 rebounds, but Cal State Northridge committed 26 turnovers and lost to Mississippi State, 75-61, in a New Mexico tournament first-round game Friday at New Mexico.

Jessica Carter scored 14 points for Mississippi State (1-1), which limited Cal State Northridge to 40% shooting in the second half.

The Bulldogs turned Northridge turnovers into 29 points.

Sha’tasha Allen scored 10 points and Myesha Saleem had nine points and seven rebounds for the Matadors (0-2), who trailed, 40-24, at halftime.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 86, San Bernardino 65--Trevor Lorz scored 20 points, Simmagin Smith added 19 and the Raiders won in the first round of the Moorpark tournament.

Moorpark (5-0) plays Glendale for the championship tonight.

Lorz made eight of 15 shots, including four three-pointers.

Moorpark outshot the Indians, 54.2% to 47.4%.

Smith, from Cleveland High, made six of nine shots, including both of his three-point shots.

The Raiders made eight three-pointers, including two by Devin Montgomery.

Montgomery finished with 14 points and Lester Strong had 15 with 10 rebounds.

Glendale 83, Irvine Valley 74--Mike Schnyder scored 15 points and added six assists for the Vaqueros in a first-round victory of the Moorpark tournament.

Sophomore center Tim Taylor of Glendale (3-2) had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Eskias McDaniels added 14 points, making four of four three-point shots.

L.A. City 101, Antelope Valley 70--Bo Segeberg had 18 points for the Marauders in a first-round defeat at the Oxnard tournament.

Antelope Valley (3-4) trailed, 58-30, at halftime.

Hancock 87, Valley 78--DaMarcus Ellis had 25 points and six assists, and Neverson White added 13 rebounds for the Monarchs (6-2) in a Western State Conference interdivision defeat at Hancock.
