Scott Will Miss Game for 2-Day Absence

A frustrated De’Andre Scott of Alemany High will miss Friday night’s game against Canyon because of unexcused absences from practice on Saturday and Monday.

“If you have rules, you have to enforce them for everybody,” first-year Coach Craig Schuler said. “I’m totally supportive of him. I want things to work out. He’s used to success in big proportions and we’re having success in little proportions. He’s as frustrated as me.”

Scott, The Times’ All-Valley co-offensive player of the year last season, was held to a career-low minus-one yard in 17 carries last week against Notre Dame. He has gained 430 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Indians (1-3).

“I talked to him last week about not allowing the relative inexperience of the players around him to frustrate him,” Schuler said. “I think he bought into it, but he hasn’t had to face this kind of adversity in football in his life. It’s always been easy. This is a test for him.”

Scott, a senior tailback, briefly left Alemany in February to enroll at Rialto Eisenhower after Coach Jim Bonds resigned and quarterback Rick Clausen transferred to Taft. He returned to Alemany soon after.

Schuler said Scott, who was excused from practice Tuesday, is expected to return to practice today.
