* Geoff Combe will replace Kathy Nash as softball coach at Moorpark High.

It is the first varsity assignment for Combe, a former Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks assistant who pitched for the Cincinnati Reds.

Nash, 25-30 in two seasons, resigned to pursue other interests.

* The Millennium Softball Training Center in Oxnard will host free college recruiting seminars at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 25.

The 90-minute sessions will focus on the recruiting process for players, parents and coaches. Space will be limited and reservations are required.

BASEBALL

* George Vranau has been suspended from coaching North Hollywood High’s baseball team pending outcome of a school investigation into his fund-raising, assistant principal Dave Smith said.

Vranau continues to teach at the school.

SOCCER

* Goalkeeper Jenny Willemse of Cal State Northridge was selected Big Sky Conference player of the week after making a season-high 10 saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season, a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton.

TENNIS

* Lauren Ritz of Thousand Oaks advanced to the final match of the girls’ 11 singles division in the Little Mo western regional tournament Sept. 22-24 at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

The unseeded Ritz, 11, lost, 6-4, 6-0, to top-seeded Sarah Hoffman in the final but qualified for the girls’ 11 singles national Little Mo tournament Oct. 27-29 at Windward Lake Club in Alpharetta, Ga.

* Tryouts for the Ventura Galaxy’s seventh-grade girls’ club team are scheduled for 6-8 tonight and from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Anacapa Middle School in Ventura.
