In what authorities said was the eighth such seizure this season, Ventura County narcotics officers on Friday seized more than 250 marijuana plants growing on national forest land.

The plants, 3 to 6 feet high, were of the high-potency variety known as sinsemilla, authorities said.

Officers from the Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Forest Service raided the site north of the Wheeler Gorge campground in Los Padres National Forest on Friday morning.

Authorities said the growers had used on a water line maintained by the Forest Service to irrigate the plants. The growers, who were not at the site, used a timer to control the flow of water.

The plants were worth $500,000 to $1 million, authorities said.
