Santa Ana’s Soccer Streak Reaches 64

Santa Ana, the top-ranked team in the state, defeated Orange Coast, 3-1, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer game Friday at Santa Ana.

It was the 64th consecutive game without a loss for the Dons, who last were defeated in conference play in 1994.

Jose Antonia Salas, Alejandro Licea and Ramon Torres each scored for Santa Ana (12-0-3, 7-0-0). Josh Miller scored for Orange Coast (8-3-4, 4-2-1).

In another conference game:

Fullerton 5, Cypress 2--Hector Navarron scored twice for the visiting Hornets (6-4-4, 4-2-1), who led, 4-2, at halftime. Cypress is 3-3-2, 3-4.

Santiago Canyon 3, Riverside 0--Former Foothill High standout Nick Adams blocked a penalty kick in the second half to preserve the shutout for Santiago Canyon (3-9-1, 2-4-1). With a 2-0 lead, Santiago Canyon played the last 30 minutes a man short after Samer Mudawar was ejected.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Santa Ana 3, Orange Coast 1--Tiffany Wilson, Ana Velazquez and Carrie Steinmeyer each scored in the second half for visiting Santa Ana (9-4-3, 5-2).

In the Citrus College women’s water polo tournament:

Orange Coast 21, El Camino 6--Tia Montalvo scored four goals and Jennifer Hallman three for the Pirates (16-2-1), ranked second in the state.

Saddleback 13, Pasadena 2--Sarah O’Donnell, Christy Schori and Lesley Merlo each scored three goals to lead Saddleback in the pool-play game. Saddleback (9-12) won its second game of the day by forfeit over Rio Hondo.

In nonconference women’s water polo:

USC 10, Golden West 6--Helen Finucane had one goal, three assists and two steals for visiting Golden West. Melissa Garrison had one goal, an assist and two steals and Stephanie Lombardo had two saves.
