Orange Lutheran Wins, but Whieldon Is Injured

Share

Orange Lutheran’s 56-26 Olympic League victory over Brethren Christian was overshadowed by the news that Lancer quarterback Casey Whieldon might be sidelined for the season.

Whieldon was hurt with 1:25 remaining in the first half. He was helped off the field and at halftime was taken to a local hospital for X-rays. He is expected to be out four to six weeks with a broken collarbone, according to his mother, Cathy Whieldon.

Jason Taylor replaced Whieldon and is expected to start next week against Cerritos Valley Christian.

The Lancers (4-2, 1-0) led, 28-0, when the injury occurred.

Starting from their first offensive play, a 64-yard touchdown run by Brent Concolino, it was evident that the Lancers could run on Brethren Christian’s outmatched defense.

For the game, the Lancers had 405 yards on the ground with four players with more than 70 yards each. They were led by Concolino’s 142 yards in only five carries.

The Lancer defense shut out Brethren Christian (1-4-1, 0-1) in the first half.

Brethren Christian didn’t get on the scoreboard until Ryan Boling intercepted a Taylor pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter.
