Clear Victory for Harvard-Westlake

Sophomore Karissa Hazy swept, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, and Harvard-Westlake High won six of nine doubles sets in an 11-7 victory over Westlake in a nonleague girls’ tennis match Wednesday at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Lauren Baer and Lindsay Weiss won, 7-5, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles for Westlake (11-4), ranked No. 10 in Southern Section Division III.

Harvard-Westlake (8-4) is ranked No. 2 in Division IV.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Newbury Park 25, Thousand Oaks 31; Newbury Park 16, Agoura 41--Mike Krestyn of Thousand Oaks placed first in the Marmonte League meet at Agoura, but Newbury Park took the next four places to hand the Lancers their first league loss.

Brandon Nakagawa was second for Newbury Park (12-2, 5-1), which ended the regular season tied for first with Thousand Oaks and Royal.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sylmar def. Van Nuys, 15-8, 15-10, 15-11--Stephanie Cisneros had 15 kills and Barbara Smiley had 22 assists for Sylmar (9-0, 6-0) in a Valley Mission League match at Van Nuys (6-3, 4-2).

Kennedy def. Monroe, 11-15, 14-16, 15-8, 17-15, 15-9--Jeanette Hernandez had 45 assists, Elisha Cho had six aces and the Cougars (5-4, 4-2) rallied for a Valley Mission League victory at Kennedy.
