In the Empire League:

Katella wins again--Marco Cervantes won in 15:48 over three miles for host Katella (5-0), which went undefeated in league for the 11th consecutive season after beating Loara, 18-42, and Kennedy, 15-49.

In the Serra League:

No. 9 Santa Margarita 21, Mater Dei 38--Steven Murray placed first in 15:46 over three miles for host Santa Margarita (3-1, 2-1), which remained in second place heading to league finals next Thursday.

In the Golden West League girls’ cross-country finals:

Saints win fifth straight title--Santa Ana had five runners in the top nine and won the team title for the fifth consecutive year. The Saints had 30 points, followed by Saddleback with 41 and Tustin with 58.

Santa Ana freshman Veronica Pedraza finished second overall in 18:58 on the Central Park three-mile course. Saddleback senior Claudia Ochoa, who had never broken 19 minutes, finished first in 18:35.

In the Serra League:

No. 10 Santa Margarita 26, No. 6 Mater Dei 29--Senior Lori Mann set a course record by eight seconds, winning in 18:08 for Santa Margarita (3-0) to break the record set by Fountain Valley’s Julie Allen.

In Empire League girls’ volleyball:

El Dorado 3, Cypress 1--Kristin Fernandez had 13 kills and Meghan Cochrane had seven aces for host El Dorado (12-2, 8-0), which won, 13-15, 15-1, 15-7, 15-10, and clinched at least a tie for the league title.

Kristy Schmitz and Meghan Stodgel each had seven kills for Cypress (8-6, 6-2).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Fullerton 0--Renee Garand had 12 kills for host Sunny Hills in a 15-5, 15-9, 15-3 win to clinch at least second place in league and a playoff berth for the 17th consecutive season.

In the Serra League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 3, Santa Margarita 0--Whitney Pavlik had 10 kills and four blocks for host Mater Dei (16-1, 5-0), which clinched a tie for the league title.

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 3, No. 10 Capistrano Valley 0--Kim Wilson had 14 kills and Krista Kimble had seven kills and six blocks for host El Toro (10-4, 4-4), which won, 15-4, 15-4, 15-13. Capistrano Valley is 11-6, 5-3.
