Tyler Ebell rushed for more than 300 yards for the seventh time this season, breaking the Ventura County single-season rushing record with a 351-yard performance in Ventura High’s 64-28 Channel League victory over Dos Pueblos on Friday night at Ventura.

Ebell had 22 carries and scored on runs of seven, 56, 30, 34, 20 and 72 yards. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior raised his season totals to 2,737 yards and 39 touchdowns in 210 carries. Ebell broke the record of 2,440 yards set last season by St. Bonaventure’s Lorenzo Booker.

“It’s not too hard when we just have to hand off to No. 2 [Ebell],” Coach Phil McCune of Ventura said. “I knew [Dos Pueblos] wouldn’t fold, and they didn’t.”

Ebell scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. His final score, a 72-yard touchdown late in the quarter, gave Ventura a 56-21 lead.

At halftime, school officials dedicated the field in honor of Ventura graduate Eric Turner, a former UCLA and NFL player who died in May from stomach cancer.
