Private individuals will be barred from painting street addresses on curb surfaces, the City Council decided Tuesday.

Councilman Brett Franklin said several residents said they were harassed by salespeople going door to door offering to paint address numbers on curbs.

Street address painters have been known to use high-pressure sales tactics or give misleading information to persuade residents to pay for their services, Franklin said.

From now on, the city will handle all street address painting, the council decided.

Residents “no longer have to worry about people coming to their door asking for money,” Franklin said.
