7 TONIGHT LONG BEACH VETERANS STADIUM
Chris Carter, Washington’s first-year coach, should make it his first order of business to drop Los Alamitos from the schedule. The Griffins have outscored the Generals, 270-48, in winning every game since the series began in 1994. Last year’s score was 48-0. Carter, who watched that game from the sideline, said Washington lacked discipline and conditioning. Now, he said, his team is in “better shape than it’s ever been.” To have any chance, the Generals must avoid turnovers and win the time-of-possession battle. Los Alamitos lacks a proven quarterback, but the three candidates vying for the starting job will get a chance to prove themselves tonight.
