Division I Up for Grabs
Now that Olympian Tony Azevedo has graduated from Long Beach Wilson, a legitimate race for the Southern Section Division I water polo championship can resume.
With Azevedo, the Bruins won four consecutive titles.
Without him . . . they are still formidable but no longer invincible.
El Toro, last season’s runner-up, is led by two-meter man Brett McCleave. Newport Harbor, which lost to El Toro in overtime in the semifinals, has four starters back. Santa Ana Foothill and North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake also will be strong, as usual.
Corona del Mar is the defending champion in Division II. Other defending champions are La Canada (Division III), Righetti (IV), Upland (V) and Rowland (VI).
