Saddleback Comes Up Short in 35-33 Loss to Cerritos

Saddleback’s Jason Whieldon completed 19 of 35 passes for 322 yards and Keller Christensen scored three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the host Gauchos lost to Cerritos, 35-33, in a Mission Conference football game Saturday night.

Saddleback reached the Cerritos 26-yard line late in the fourth quarter, but with under a minute to play Whieldon fumbled. Cerritos’ Joe McGill recovered and returned the ball 17 yards.

Malaki Lesa had eight catches for 159 yards and Christensen had nine catches for 111 yards to lead the Gauchos (0-2). The Falcons improved to 2-0.

In other Mission Conference football games:

El Camino 28, Santa Ana 20--Robert Hodge completed 24 of 42 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns to lead El Camino (2-0). David Hatch caught a four-yard pass from Grant Wagner in the fourth quarter for Santa Ana (0-2) to make the score 28-20.

Long Beach 17, Orange Coast 7--Orange Coast (0-2) was outgained, 357 yards to 154.

The Pirates’ quarterbacks combined to complete just six of 30 passes for 70 yards and had one intercepted.

Mt. San Antonio 52, Golden West 6--Jeff Cordova completed 16 of 20 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns to lead Mt. San Antonio (2-0) to a nonconference victory at home. Mt. San Antonio took a 38-0 lead at halftime. Brandon Huey scored the Rustlers’ only touchdown in the third quarter on a 20-yard pass from Adam Weaver. Huey had four catches for 105 yards. Weaver completed seven of 20 passes for 141 yards.

Pasadena 35, Fullerton 28--Josh Knight completed 22 of 28 passes for 308 yards for Pasadena (2-0). Matt Gogan had three touchdowns for Fullerton (0-2), which trailed, 21-0, at halftime.
