Bolsa Grande Can’t Get Going Against Norwalk

Share

Bolsa Grande Coach Steve Howard struggled as he looked for positives after his Matadors lost to visiting Norwalk, 41-0, Friday.

“Someday maybe it’ll sink in that there are certain ways to play football and ways not to play football,” Howard said. “Half of the things we did tonight aren’t things we practice.”

Howard was referring to his 0-3 team’s execution, but that may not be the only problem for a Matador squad that netted only 44 yards on offense and gave up six touchdowns in the first half alone.

Norwalk running back Adrian Boler rushed for 221 yards in 14 carries. His 27-yard run on Norwalk’s opening series set up a five-yard scoring sneak by quarterback Marlin Lane, but Boler did the job himself after that. A 15-yard touchdown run later in the quarter was just a prelude to a second quarter in which he scored on runs of 10, 33, 29 and 49 yards in a span of 8 minutes 42 seconds.

Bolsa Grande’s offense never got inside the Norwalk 40. The Matadors’ most exciting offensive play of the night came in the first quarter, when punter/quarterback Alex Guadarrama fielded a bad punt snap 25 yards behind the line of scrimmage, scrambled out of trouble, and eventually turned the busted play into about a 25-yard gain. However, the play was nullified by a procedure penalty.
