Hungary, the World Cup champions, opened the tournament with a strong 7-4 victory over Greece.
Rajmund Fodor scored twice for the Hungarians, who led, 5-0, in the first half before the Greeks rallied within a goal in the final period.
But Barnabas Steinmetz scored with 4:58 remaining to keep things from slipping away for Hungary.
