Host Fairmont got a lift from brothers Stephen and Jason Park, who combined for three touchdowns, three interceptions and 216 yards rushing in a 48-20 victory over Saddleback Valley Christian, Saturday at Glover Stadium.
Fairmont (2-0) got out to a quick start on its first drive. After Jason Park’s 18-yard touchdown run was called back because of a clipping penalty, Stephen Park broke free on the next play, a misdirection play that he turned into a 32-yard touchdown run. He also scored the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Fairmont limited Saddleback Valley Christian to 23 total yards in the first quarter. After Fairmont pulled ahead 22-0, Saddleback Valley Christian (0-2) scored with its special teams.
With 4 minutes 36 seconds remaining in the second quarter, tailback Jesse Garcia fielded a punt from Matt Gomez on the Warrior 20 and then bolted through the Huskie defense for a 80-yard return cutting the deficit to 22-8.
Fairmont’s double-wing offense rushed for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Huskie running back Justin Harris carried the ball twice for 61 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown was a 36-yard run with 3:47 remaining.
Fairmont has already equaled last year’s victory total of two.
