Seminoles Record Shutout at Home

Linebacker Tommy Polley returned an interception for a touchdown and forced a fumble to set up another as No. 2 Florida State beat Louisville, 31-0, Saturday at Tallahassee, Fla., to extend major college’s longest winning streak to 16 games.

Chris Weinke threw for 221 yards and a touchdown and ran two yards for another for Florida State (4-0). Weinke, however, had three passes intercepted in a game penalty-filled game. Each team was called for 13 penalties for a total of 243 yards.

Louisville (2-1) had not been shut out since 1992.

Quarterback Woodrow Dantzler ran for 220 yards and two long touchdowns to lead No. 11 Clemson (4-0, 2-0) to a 31-10 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Virginia (2-2, 1-1) at Charlottesville, Va. Dantzler, the nation’s second-leading passer and 38th-ranked rusher, scored on runs of 75 and 45 yards and completed 15 of 24 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. . . . Ronald Curry completed 24 of 39 passes for 292 yards, including two fourth-quarter touchdowns as North Carolina (3-1) recorded a 20-15 victory over Marshall (1-2) at Chapel Hill, N.C. . . . Calvin McCall passed for a career-high 357 yards and two touchdowns and LaMont Jordan rushed for three touchdowns as Maryland (2-1) pulled away to a 45-27 victory over Middle Tennessee (1-3) at College Park, Md.

Tim Hasselbeck completed 20 of 28 passes for 355 yards and connected with Dedrick Dwalt for two touchdowns as Boston College (2-1) rolled to a 48-7 victory over Navy (0-3) at Boston.

Nose tackle Marty Harig returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter as Western Michigan (3-1, 1-0) scored a 21-14 victory over Toledo (3-1, 0-1) in a Mid-American Conference game at Kalamazoo, Mich.

LaDainian Tomlinson ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 18 Texas Christian (3-0) to a 52-3 victory over Arkansas State (0-4) at Fort Worth, Texas. . . . Junior tailback Ken Bohanon had a career-high 178 yards and a touchdown and Chris Earnest kicked three field goals to stay perfect in 10 attempts as Tulsa (2-2) held off turnover-prone Louisiana Tech (1-4) for a 22-10 victory at Tulsa, Okla.

Luke Staley ran for 167 yards in 28 carries and the Brigham Young defense turned back a late Nevada Las Vegas surge as the Cougars (2-3, 1-1) held off the Rebels (1-2, 0-1) for a 10-7 Mountain West Conference victory in the rain and cold at Provo, Utah. BYU quarterback Bret Engemann left the game in the third quarter after re-injuring his ankle. . . . . . . Mike Thiessen passed for two touchdowns as Air Force (3-0, 2-0) pulled out a 23-14 victory over Utah (0-4, 0-1) in a Mountain West Conference game at Salt Lake City. . . . Seth Burford passed for 182 yards and five touchdowns to lead Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1-2) to a 35-14 victory over Montana State (0-3) at Bozeman, Mont.
