Westlake Might Be in League of Its Own

Westlake High, seven days removed from its scintillating victory over Hart, didn’t come close to matching its performance of a week ago.

The Warriors might have played even better Thursday against Thousand Oaks.

The Warriors’ had 551 total yards, seven sacks and the ability to convert on second and 52 . . . by scoring an 87-yard touchdown.

It added up to a 49-0 victory over host Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League opener.

The Warriors (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, were practically flawless, rushing for 337 yards and holding Thousand Oaks (0-4) to 67 total yards.

“We talked about coming out, making a few believers out of people and making a statement to Marmonte League teams,” said Coach Jim Benkert of Westlake.

Todd Feiereisen, one of three players who transferred from Thousand Oaks to Westlake in January, completed seven of 18 passes for 214 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

“It was really weird,” Feiereisen said. “It’s definitely strange coming back and playing against guys who I’d played with the past couple years. But I knew I had a good team backing me up.”

That much was evident on the first play of the second quarter.

The Warriors, backed up to their 13 because of three consecutive penalties and a loss on a running play, needed 52 yards for a first down.

Feiereisen connected with Ryan Foltz on an 87-yard hitch-and-go pass play to give Westlake a 14-0 lead. Foltz had four catches for 163 yards.

Jon Contos rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns in 11 carries for Westlake.

Ben Olson completed 16 of 33 passes for 75 yards for Thousand Oaks.
