Rio Mesa 21, Simi Valley 8--After being held scoreless in the first half, the host Spartans scored 21 unanswered points to win their first game of the season.

Anthony Mestas scored the go-ahead touchdown for the Spartans (1-3) when he took a swing pass from Lionel Carrizales and went 41 yards with 10 minutes to play. Carrizales would add a 15-yard scoring pass to Diego Renteria.

Chris Delung capped a game-opening 10-play, 65-yard drive with an eight-yard scoring run to put the Pioneers (0-4) up 8-0 after he ran in the conversion.
