Pasadena Games Turn Into Family Picnic for Felixes

Four victories.

Three career bests.

Two athlete of the meet trophies.

Not a bad day’s work for siblings Allyson and Wes Felix in the Pasadena Games track and field meet at Pasadena City College on Saturday.

Allyson Felix, a sophomore at L.A. Baptist High, won the girls’ 100 in 11.82 and the 200 in 23.77.

Wes Felix, a senior at Valencia, won the boys’ 100 in 10.78 and the 200 in 21.86.

Allyson’s time in the 100 tied her career best and her 200 time was the fastest outdoor time in the state this year, moving her to sixth on the all-time region list.

Wes posted the fastest fully automatic times of his career in the 100 and 200.

“We’re real supportive of each other,” Wes said when asked if there was a rivalry between he and his sister.

“Because we go to different schools and have different coaches, her coach will give her tips and my coach will give me tips, and we’ll come back and share them with each other.”

Allyson, who opted for L.A. Baptist because of its small size and because several of her friends go there, concurred.

“We tease each other,” she said. “But it never gets serious. . . . We’re both very supportive of each other. We’ll watch each other run and give each other tips on what we think we could do better.”

Senior Chris Morgan of Taft, defending state champion in the boys’ 110 high hurdles, won his second consecutive Pasadena Games title in that event with a career best of 13.90, placed third in the 100 in 10.88 and ran the second leg on the winning 400 relay team that clocked 42.44.

His time in the high hurdles cut .04 seconds off his previous best set last year, was the fastest in the state this year and solidified his hold on fourth on the all-time region list.

Daniel Clements of Taft, who committed to UCLA on Friday, won the boys’ 800 in 1:54.65.

Senior Schquay Brignac of Taft, defending state champion in the girls’ high jump, won that event in 5-8 and the long jump in a school-record 18-11 1/4.

Sophomore Phillip Reid of Rio Mesa won the boys’ 1,600 in a school-record 4:18.24, while senior Mark Nevers of Oak Park set a school record of 9:16.52 in the boys’ 3,200.

Sophomore Treani Swain of Oakwood won the girls’ 800 in a school-record 2:14.10, fastest time in the state this year.
