Battier--a 6-foot-8, 220-pound senior from Birmingham, Mich.--had five of the Blue Devils’ school-record 18 three-point baskets. He had two three-point baskets and a layup in a 57-second span in Duke’s 62-point first half.

Battier had a layup, made a bank shot and a three-point attempt, and blocked a shot in the Blue Devils’ decisive 11-0 run midway in the second half.

Battier had 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Blue Devils take a 33-26 halftime lead.

Battier combined with Jason Williams to score 33 of the Blue Devils’ first 43 points.

Battier made four of his final five three-point shots as the Blue Devils came back from a 22-point deficit in the first half.

Battier struggled most of the game but rose to the occasion in the final minutes. “Shane wasn’t hitting his jump shot, but he comes up with two amazing offensive rebounds,” said Coach Mike Krzyzewski, referring to the plays in the final 4 1/2 minutes on which Battier scored after Arizona had closed within three points. Battier finished his career with 131 victories, tying Kentucky’s Wayne Turner, who played from 1996-99, for the NCAA record.
