Rain washed away five of six Western State Conference baseball games Saturday, but Glendale journeyed to Bakersfield for a Southern Division night matchup.

The Vaqueros (22-5, 13-4 in conference) should have stayed home.

They lost to Bakersfield, 12-2, under intermittent rain and hail.

Bakersfield (16-14, 7-10) took advantage of wildness by freshman left-hander Eddie Camacho (2-1), who walked three batters in the second and five in the third before he was replaced by Vic Herrera.

The Renegades scored four runs in the second with two out, and seven runs in the third with two out.

Glendale remains in first place in the division, a half-game ahead of Citrus (22-6, 12-4).

With WSC interdivision baseball games ending last Thursday, the South battered the North, 24-12.

In six rounds of games that started March 24, the six Southern Division teams came on strong in the final three rounds, including a sweep of Northern Division teams on March 31.

Glendale and Citrus each were 5-1 against Northern teams, Canyons and Pierce each were 4-2, and Valley and Bakersfield each were 3-3.

Oxnard and Ventura took a beating against Southern teams, each losing five of six. Moorpark was 2-4.

Playing interdivision games proved costly for Oxnard, which has lost five in a row.

Oxnard and Cuesta entered the first interdivision round tied for first in the Northern Division, each with 8-2 records.

The Condors won their first crossover game and Cuesta lost, but it was downhill from there for Oxnard (15-13, 9-7), which is in third place and trails first-place Cuesta (20-8, 12-5) by 2 1/2 games.
