Pauline H. Crowdis; Former School Secretary

Pauline H. Crowdis, a retired secretary, died Tuesday in a Ventura hospital following a brief illness. She was 88.

Born on May 8, 1912, in Parsons, Kan., Crowdis had been a Ventura County resident for 68 years.

Before retiring in 1976, she worked for the Ventura Unified School District as a secretary for 23 years, at Lincoln Elementary School and at Will Rogers Elementary School.

Crowdis was a longtime active member of First Methodist Church in Ventura. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ventura, Fillmore Chapter 79. She loved to drive and was known for her willingness to offer rides to anyone in need. She also delivered food through Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her son, Jim, of Newbury Park, and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, which is handling the arrangements.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura with the Rev. Walter Dilg Jr. of First Methodist Church officiating.
