Officials to Request Review of Radar Tower
Ventura County supervisors agreed Tuesday to ask for federal legislators’ help in requesting a review of how well a 98-foot-tall Doppler radar tower is working in predicting flash floods.
The tower, located at the top of Sulphur Mountain near Ojai, has been the subject of an eight-year fight by neighbors who want it removed. They say it is an eyesore and has an unacceptably high failure rate in predicting flash floods.
The National Weather Service has used the weather tower since 1983 to monitor storms and warn about possible flooding. Opponents of the tower include actor Larry Hagman, whose mountaintop home is adjacent to the tower.
Hagman attended Tuesday’s meeting but made no comments.
