Perez Paces Columbus With Goal and Assists

John Wilmar Perez had a goal and two assists for the Columbus Crew in a 3-0 victory over the Dallas Burn on Wednesday in front of 19,008 at Columbus, Ohio.

It was the eighth consecutive victory for the Crew.

A corner kick by Perez set up Brian Maisonneuve’s header in the 18th minute. In the 75th minute, Perez drew two defenders and passed to a wide-open Dante Washington, who headed the ball past Matt Jordan for a 2-0 lead.

Perez scored his team-high eighth goal off a broken play in the 91st minute.

Columbus is 9-2-4 overall and 6-0-3 at home since Coach Greg Andrulis replaced Tom Fitzgerald.

Miami 2, Chicago 1--Diego Serna and Alex Pineda Chacon scored for the Fusion in front of 14,737 at Chicago.

The Fusion (14-4-5) increased its league-leading point total to 46.

Chicago’s Dema Kovalenko scored his sixth goal in the 32nd minute.

Miami was without Coach Ray Huson, who is home after being hospitalized for exhaustion, chest pains and dizziness during Saturday’s game against the New England Revolution.

Assistants John Trask and Eric Eichman coached the team.

New York-New Jersey 2, D.C. United 1--Rodrigo Faria had a goal and an assist in front of 11,618 at Washington.

Faria scored in the 10th minute and set up Mark Chung’s goal in the 41st minute.

Mark Lisi scored in the 87th minute for United (6-14-2).
