West Coast Conference Honors Top 50 Athletes
Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount had 13 former athletes selected among the 50 greatest in the history of the West Coast Conference, which is celebrating its 50th year of existence.
Among Pepperdine’s seven honored athletes were current NBA guard Doug Christie (men’s basketball), former Cy Young award winner Mike Scott (baseball), Bird Averitt (men’s basketball), Kelly Jones (men’s tennis), Jason Gore (men’s golf), Steve Rodriguez (baseball) and Robbie Weiss (men’s tennis).
Loyola Marymount’s six honorees included the late Hank Gathers (basketball), the late Tim Layana (baseball), Bo Kimble (men’s basketball), Billy Bean (baseball), Sarah McFarland (women’s volleyball) and Sarah Noriega (women’s volleyball).
