Narbonne Submarines Kennedy

Harbor City Narbonne maintained the Marine League’s dominance in the City Section Invitational division with a 41-13 championship-game victory over Granada Hills Kennedy Friday at the Coliseum.

Narbonne (8-5) is the third consecutive Marine League team to win the division for teams rated 17-32 at the end of the regular season. Wilmington Banning won in 1999 and Gardena in 2000.

Narbonne extended a 14-7 halftime lead by scoring 20 points within a span of 4 minutes 8 seconds near the end of the third quarter. Narbonne running back Ronnie Smith scored on a four-yard run with 5:14 left in the third quarter and a 36-yard run four minutes later. Donell Wheaton intercepted a pass on the ensuing possession and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown and 34-7 lead.

Narbonne quarterback Monty Long completed nine of 19 passes for 152 yards. Kennedy finished 7-6.
