Narbonne Loses First in New York

Senior Jenna Viani scored 24 points to lead Our Lady of Lourdes High to a 58-53 victory over Harbor City Narbonne on Saturday night in the featured girls’ basketball game of the Slam Dunk Challenge at Westchester County Center in New York.

Lourdes of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., ranked 11th in the nation by USA Today, opened the game with a 17-5 run but trailed by eight points at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Villanova-bound Viani scored eight points in the fourth quarter for Lourdes (2-0), the three-time defending state federation champion.

Wilnett Crockett, a 6-foot-3 forward who has signed with Connecticut, led Narbonne (4-1), ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times and No. 2 in the nation, with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Narbonne is the two-time defending state Division I champion and is ranked first in some national polls.

Placentia El Dorado 48, Fullerton Rosary 42--Melissa Jacob made two baskets in a 5-0 run at the end of the third quarter to give El Dorado a seven-point lead in the championship game of its own tournament.

Jacob scored 15 points and Melissa Cook had 16 for No. 19 El Dorado (9-0).

No. 24 Rosary (5-2), the two-time defending tournament champion, made only 22.4% of its field goals. Cara Enright scored 12 points for the Royals.

San Clemente 67, Huntington Beach 48--Lindsey Pluimer had 35 points and 10 rebounds to lead fourth-ranked San Clemente (8-1) to victory in the championship game of its own tournament.

Huntington Beach is 7-2.

In boys’ basketball:

Thousand Oaks 100, Reseda 76--C.J. Handlos scored 19 points in a semifinal game of the Sylmar tournament to help 17th-ranked Thousand Oaks (4-0) advance to the championship game at 10 p.m. against the host Spartans.
