Chatsworth Halts Taft Streak at 18

Ashley Shelton made four three-point baskets and Chatsworth High handed Taft its first defeat, 60-47, in a West Valley League game Friday at Taft.

Shelton finished with 17 points and four assists. The Chancellors (16-7, 6-2 in league play) fell behind, 10-2, in the first quarter and appeared to be on its way to a repeat of its 76-56 home loss to the Toreadors (18-1, 7-1) on Jan. 17.

Lindsay Eichler scored 10 of her 14 points for Chatsworth during a 22-8 third quarter and had three steals.

Denisha McCoy scored 15 points and Schquay Brignac had 14 for Taft, ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times.

Chatsworth will try to avenge its other league loss Wednesday when it hosts El Camino Real.

Grant 75, Poly 30--Alexis Weatherspoon had 22 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals and eight assists in the Lancers’ Sunset League victory at Poly.

Krystal Clay had 22 points, 10 assists and nine steals for Grant (15-8, 7-1), which plays at first-place North Hollywood on Wednesday.

Burroughs 59, Saugus 53--Tulyah Gaines had 19 points and five steals, Danica Cunningham had 11 points and eight rebounds, and the Indians won a Foothill League game at Burroughs.

Canyon 67, Burbank 26--Katie Holdaway had nine points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots in a Foothill League victory for the Cowboys (14-10, 3-5) at Burbank.

Moorpark 53, Thousand Oaks 43--Taryn Milburn had 15 points and 12 rebounds to help the Musketeers to victory in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Milburn made six of nine shots and Natalia Worth scored 13 points and made four of six shots for Moorpark (15-6, 6-4).

Royal 53, Agoura 44--Ashley Alderton made four three-pointers and scored 17 points to spark the Highlanders (16-8, 5-5) in a Marmonte League victory at Royal.

Nordhoff 47, La Reina 30--Alison Bennett had 10 points and 14 rebounds and the Rangers (11-2, 3-3) forced 30 turnovers in a nonleague game at La Reina (3-17, 1-7).

Montclair Prep 79, Whitney 43--Eshaya Murphy had 40 points and 20 rebounds for the Mounties in a Delphic League victory at Montclair Prep.

Jasmine Wesley had 18 points and 16 rebounds for Montclair Prep (19-0, 8-0), which clinched the league title.

Newbury Park 58, Westlake 25--Bridget Harris had 11 points for the Panthers (18-7, 10-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park.
