AWARDS

All in the Family: Drew Barrymore will be presented with the inaugural Barrymore Award from the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild at its second annual awards presentation in March. Marketing Movies: The American Film Marketing Assn., a trade group for independent film distributors and producers, has added an awards show to its annual movie showcase. Honorees at the Feb. 22 ceremony will include Arnold Schwarzenegger for his worldwide box-office success, Renee Zellweger for acting achievements and Renny Harlin (“Die Hard 2”) for his directing work. B-movie producer and director Roger Corman will receive a lifetime achievement award. The ceremony, to take place on the beach in Santa Monica, will coincide with the group’s 21st annual film market from Feb. 21-28, during which about 400 movies will be screened for distributors, producers and others in the industry.

TELEVISION

Top 10 Reasons Why the Top 10 Was Scrapped: The New York Post reported Friday that a David Letterman Top 10 list that made fun of CBS was scratched this past week. The list offered the top 10 reasons people are suing the network, pegged to a lawsuit filed by Stacey Stillman, a former “Survivor” participant who claimed the reality show was rigged. CBS spokeswoman Rosemary Keenan said the network didn’t apply any pressure to Letterman to sub the list--it was the talk-show host and his producers who decided to scrap it. “It didn’t get a good reaction from the audience, and they felt it wasn’t funny enough,” she said. Meanwhile, a Letterman joke in December at the expense of Dr Pepper wasn’t deemed too funny by the company that makes the soft drink, a CBS advertiser. After a representative of Dr Pepper complained, CBS agreed not to rerun the Dec. 20 episode, although Keenan said shows that originally aired near a holiday are rarely repeated anyway because they are dated.

‘Survivor’ Stays on Top: The second week of “Survivor” versus NBC’s “Friends” and “Saturday Night Live” essentially mirrored the first round, with the CBS series averaging 29 million viewers--about the same as the previous week--to win the hour Thursday night. Despite the heightened competition, “Friends” continued to weather the storm, with 22.4 million viewers tuning in, close to its average this season, while 18.5 million watched the 20-minute “SNL” edition that followed.

‘Temptation’ Act: In what is doubtless no surprise to anyone, several contestants from Fox’s “Temptation Island” are now revealing their acting aspirations. Ytossie Patterson, who with partner Taheed Watson was kicked off the show because they had a child, is a stand-in to actress Holly Robinson Peete on the WB network sitcom “For Your Love.” Watson recently taped an episode of the syndicated “Arrest & Trial” that will be broadcast Feb. 19, and another couple featured on the show, Billy Cleary and Mandy Lauderdale, are also talking about acting careers. “Anybody who would do a show like that, that would be the reason: exposure, exposure, exposure,” said Richard Castleberry, who became Watson’s agent a few months ago.

Sentences Drawn: Three Danes were sentenced to prison Friday for stealing paintings by Rembrandt and Giovanni Bellini from the Nivaagaard Collection museum two years ago. Rembrandt’s “Portrait of a Lady” and Bellini’s “Portrait of a Young Man,” estimated to be worth $25 million, were recovered unharmed seven months later. A 12-member jury at Copenhagen’s Eastern High Court sentenced Johnny Michael Ramkvist to five years in prison for masterminding the theft. His accomplices were sentenced to four- and three-year terms, respectively.

He Put a Spell on Them: The House of Blues in L.A. will honor Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ life, musical career and children on Monday, the first anniversary of his death. The R&B; legend, who sang the classic “I Put a Spell on You,” claimed to have fathered more than 75 children during his lifetime. A massive search conducted via the Internet has located 12 of his offspring, who will be brought together for the first time at the tribute.

Springsteen’s Web Loss: Bruce Springsteen has lost his bid to evict a fan club from a Web site sporting his name. In a split decision, a three-member panel ruled that Jeff Burgar and the Bruce Springsteen Club had not violated the musician’s rights by registering the Web site brucespringsteen.com. It was a rare loss for a celebrity before the World Intellectual Property Organization, the United Nations agency that protects trademarks and patents.
