DIVISION V-AA

Montclair Prep 54, Aquinas 46--There was good reason for Theadora Holmes being carried off the court by her 11-year-old brother, Khaled, in a victory salute after the Mounties’ quarterfinal at Montclair Prep.

Holmes, the sister of USC tight end Alex Holmes, saved the Mounties (25-0) in the second quarter, when leading scorer Eshaya Murphy was stuck on the bench in foul trouble. Holmes scored seven of her nine points to help the Mounties take a 27-25 lead.

Murphy took over in the second half, scoring 18 of her 22 points. Jasmine Wesley had 12 of her 16 rebounds in the first half. Montclair Prep trailed by as many as five points until rallying behind Holmes.

Wesley’s basket after an offensive rebound with 1:18 left gave the Mounties a 49-44 lead. Elaine Duag scored 18 points for Aquinas (19-4).
