VAN NUYS — A 67-year-old man died Sunday after falling off a scooter in a Van Nuys intersection, Los Angeles police said.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, fell from a motorized scooter just before 9 a.m. in the crosswalk at Sepulveda Boulevard and Stagg Street, Police Sgt. Charles Swanson said.
“He took a header without wearing a helmet--landed on his head,” Swanson said.
The man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving by ambulance at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
Witnesses reported seeing a car drive slowly by the fallen man, Swanson said, causing police to initially suspect he had been hit.
Through further interviews, however, investigators determined the man’s death was caused only by his fall from the scooter.
