Remarkably, the defending Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams were beaten by a New Orleans Saint team comprised of backups at almost every skill position:
The Replacements Saturday vs. Rams
QB Aaron Brooks 16 for 29, 266 yards, 4 TDs
Comment: Began season as Packers’ third-string quarterback before coming to New Orleans in a trade. Took over as starting quarterback for injured Jeff Blake and led Saints to first playoff victory in team history.
WR Willie Jackson 6 rec., 142 yards, 3 TDs
Comment: Saints are his fourth team in seven seasons. Became starter when Jake Reed broke his leg; finished with 37 catches.
WR Robert Wilson 3 receptions, 41 yards, TD
Comment: Has only 11 catches in three seasons. Touchdown was his first.
RB Chad Morton 34 yards receiving, 5 rushing
Comment: Morton became a third-down threat when Ricky Williams was injured.
RB Terry Allen 21 yards rushing, 6 receiving
Comment: Veteran with 7,777 career rushing yards was not active when Saints called him as a replacement for injured Williams Nov. 30.
