Vandals Slash Tires of Dozens of Vehicles

The tires of up to 50 vehicles in an upscale Oxnard Shores neighborhood were slashed early Saturday morning, police said.

One to four tires of 30 to 50 cars parked in driveways and streets in the area were punctured between midnight and 4 a.m., Sgt. T.W. Lumas said. Five or six streets in the subdivision were affected.

There are no suspects, Lumas said.

Alice Dykes, who lives on Whitecap Street, said one tire on her parked recreational vehicle was slashed, and her son found all four of his truck’s tires plus two on an attached trailer destroyed.

“It’s a big pain,” she said. “If you look down our street, every driveway has cars sitting up on jacks. It really is strange.”

Rachael Corley, who also lives on Whitecap, said a guest staying with her went out for an early-morning walk and found one of the household’s cars with slashed tires.

“I’m kind of nervous about tonight,” she said. “Are they going to go and hit everyone again with all these brand new tires? They’re expensive.”
