El Modena Hands Villa Park Its First League Loss

Lindsey Galasso scored 17 points Friday to help El Modena to a 56-45 victory over Villa Park in Century League girls’ basketball.

Brianna Orand had 15 points for host El Modena (9-11, 3-3), which outscored the Spartans, 34-21, in the second half.

Lauren Yadon had 16 points for Villa Park (12-9, 5-1).

In other Century League games:

Foothill 78, Canyon 47--Kristen Mann scored 37 points for Foothill (12-9, 4-2). Stephanie Anderson led Canyon with 13.

Santa Ana Valley 78, Orange 25--Freshman Amber Hebert led Santa Ana Valley with 17 points.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 57, Buena Park 16--Brandi Davis had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

No. 5 Troy 74, La Habra 27--Veronica Johns-Richardson of Troy had 22 points, nine assists and seven steals.

Sunny Hills 53, Fullerton 45--Kristen Fong had 26 points for host Sunny Hills (9-12, 3-3), which made 25 of 49 free throws. Julie Blide had 16 points for Fullerton (1-5 in league).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 55, Bolsa Grande 33--Sarah Leathers scored 18 points for the visiting Mariners (15-7, 8-0). Chau Phan scored 13 points for Bolsa Grande (0-22, 0-8).

Santiago 59, La Quinta 27--Jody Robertson had 16 points and Evelyn Gomez had 12 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals for host Santiago (15-8, 6-3).

Thao Ly had 10 points for La Quinta (7-14, 3-7).
