Woodbridge’s Unbeaten Record Remains Intact

Woodbridge rallied with 20 second-half points from Lara Gray to defeat Santa Margarita, 52-45, in a nonleague girls’ basketball game Saturday at Woodbridge.
The No. 6 Warriors (22-0) trailed, 26-16, at halftime, but outscored the eighth-ranked Eagles, 21-11, in the third quarter to tie the score, 37-37.
Gray finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Garland Cooper scored 16 points for Santa Margarita (16-6).
In other nonleague games:
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 52, Downey Calvary Chapel 28--Richeal Werdel scored 11 points and Jillian Poe and Rachel Menkal each had seven rebounds for visiting Santa Ana (14-8).
Esperanza 53, Long Beach Wilson 50 (OT)--Lindsay Helvey scored the game-winning basket with 14 seconds remaining in overtime for Esperanza (19-4). Helvey also tied the game at the end of regulation with a free throw. Laura Jacobsen and Bethany Blair each scored 16 points for the Aztecs.
Westminster 67, Mater Dei 59--Blava Arganda scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds for visiting Westminster (19-4). Eva Camerena and Ashley Herbert each scored 11 points.
Jessica Williams led Mater Dei (6-14) with 17 points.
Acaciawood 54, Running Springs Cedu 32--Acaciawood had 26 steals, led by Jesse Cope with six. Cope also scored 19 points.
In the Ayala girls’ basketball Reebok Extravaganza:
Irvine 68, Murrieta Valley 54--Jody Carlson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Irvine (17-5), which is ranked fourth in Orange County. Kristin Thawley led Irvine with 20 points.
In the South Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 62, Dana Hills 44--Genvielle DeCicco had 18 points and 10 steals and Meghan McGovern had 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for visiting Trabuco Hills (9-13, 3-4).
Kelly Leifer led Dana Hills (4-19, 0-7) with 14 points.
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 77, Downey Calvary Chapel 69--Tony Olivas scored 27 points and Bryan Filkey added 24 as Santa Ana (15-5) won on the road. Canaan Owens hit two free throws with 30 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Orange Lutheran 63, Tustin 58--Darrell Jenkins had 21 points and five assists, and Marc Troyer added 19 points for visiting Orange Lutheran (10-9).
Duane Nix scored 18 points for Tustin.
In Golden West League girls’ soccer:
Santa Ana 3, Westminster 1--Maria Patino had two first-half goals and Maria Martinez also scored in the first 40 minutes for host Santa Ana (11-2-2, 4-0).
Jennifer Brenner scored in the second half for Westminster (5-7-2, 1-2-2).
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
St. Margaret’s 1, San Pedro Mary Star 0--Emily Parker scored the game’s only goal in the 63rd minute for host St. Margaret’s (10-8-1). Goalkeeper Erin Balak posted her fifth shutout of the season.
In the Katella girls’ water polo tournament:
Western 5, Buena Park 4--Natalie Hower, who had four goals, scored with 22 seconds remaining, breaking a 4-4 tie and lifting Western to victory in the pool-play game.
Later, Hower scored three goals as the Pioneers (14-9) lost to Tustin, 14-7.
